James earned a 2:1 Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bath in 2016 before joining the Mace graduate scheme the same year. He spent two years on-site at the LSE Centre Building, a RIBA National Award winner, overseeing its redevelopment, followed by three years in Mace’s design consultancy and BIM teams. In 2022, he moved to McBains, where he contributed to the mechanical engineering of Staple Tye Harlow, a Passivhaus-certified housing development, and led mechanical and public health engineering for the Arts & Cultural Quarter, Broad Walk, and Market Square in Harlow.

In 2024, James joined Skelly & Couch, where he is currently focused on engineering analysis to support planning permission for Brighton College's Covent Boarding House and Highgate Cemetery. He has also recently begun work on a warehouse project for Mr. Jones Watches.

James is a chartered member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and passionate about mentoring. He found tutoring a university student highly rewarding and is eager to continue supporting the next generation of engineering students.

James directs mantissamix.com and hosts a monthly radio show on Voices Radio. He also enjoys football, cycling, and golf.
